“The Green Fog” is an experimental film presenting a scrambled history of San Francisco through its representation in the movies. Commissioned by the San Francisco Film Society, director Guy Maddin and his “Forbidden Room” collaborators, siblings Evan and Galen Johnson, compiled footage from about 100 San Francisco-set movies and TV shows into a collage that pays tribute to Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo.” The film combines a Hitchcockian sense of intrigue, romance and suspense with a playful spirit. — Charlie Brown Sanders
